Little Girls Wiser Than Old Men
Easter was early that year. People had just
stopped riding sleighs, snow lay around in barnyards, and rivulets were running.
A whole puddle from a thawing manure pile had collected in an alleyway between
two yards, and two little girls from different houses, one smaller and the other
a little older, had gathered by the puddle to play. Both girls had been dressed
